I think I will go with the standard shipping because I am leaving for a two week trip on September 5, and it may be pushing it a little to expect it in time. Plus, given limited luggage space, I'm not certain that I would even take the moss green jacket with me anyway (though the black velvet is already guaranteed an honored place in my suitcase!). From the magnificent Dragon Robe worn by emperors to the popular embroidery seen in today's fashions, embroidery adds so much beauty and pleasure to our life and culture. The oldest embroidered work in China on record dates from the Shang Dynasty and it has a long history of thousands of years.
The craft of embroidery is very popular between 14th century and the beginning of the 20th century. It is extensively applied for religion and household-use articles such as Buddhist statues, tobacco bags, wallets, pillow cases and table cloth and dress. The patterns of embroidery cover a larger range, from sun, moon, stars, mountains, dragons, and phoenix to tiger, flower and grass, clouds and geometric figures. Auspicious words are also fashionable and these patterns are widely used in the embroidered works.
Chinese embroidery has four main traditional styles: Suzhou embroidery (Su Xiu), Hunan embroidery (Xiang Xiu), Guangdong embroidery (Yue Xiu) and Sichuan embroidery (Shu Xiu). All of them are nominated as Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage.
How magnificent! A piece of work of art! Chinese-style dress is well-known for the unique design and exquisite fabric, and many women are big fans of the hand-embroidered dress. In China, it is believed that red can get rid of bad luck, and the Chinese love wearing red dress on any of happy occasions, wishing to bring good luck and happiness.
This red coat is an outer garment with short sleeves and mandarin collar, covering the body down to the thighs. Made of fine silk brocade with gold-colored dragon patterns, this fantastic coat has a high decorative and artistic value. In Chinese culture, dragon is the symbol of great wealth and imperial power, and only the emperors are entitled to be in the dress with dragon patterns. You will see that some handmade frog buttons are fastened on the front side. The short sleeves and hems are very distinctive, and both sides are made with slits toward the waist. Black binding is decorated on the coat, going well with black trimmings. The silk brocade coat is tailored with full lining, so you will be comfortable in it.
