And, telling you your luck or horoscope for the day, instead? Many of us believe in the fortune and luck. This was an influence to us brought about by civilization and of other races to our respective culture. Chinese is said to be known for this matter. In fact, they have the so called Chinese Zodiac originated in the Han Dynasty around 202BC to 220AD.

They used animals as signs to represent the year you were born. These animals are the pig, dog, rooster, monkey, sheep, horse, snake, dragon, rabbit, tiger, ox, and rat. Usually, these animals have been related with an earthly branch thus calling each animal years as hai pig, xu dog, you rooster, shen monkey, wei sheep, wu horse, si snake, chen dragon, mao rabbit, yin tiger, mao rabbit, chou ox, and zi rat. Primarily, Chinese Zodiac was based upon the characters of animals and the living habits. For instance, at 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM rat is actively seeks food. This was then named zishi (time period of zi). Likewise, the time where oxen ruminate at 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM, was named choushi basing the time period of chou. In tigers’ case where it was named yin shi (time period of yin), they hunt prey and display fiercest nature at 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM.


Chinese Zodiac or Sheng Xiao had represented an animal sign in each year in a twelve-year cycle. This animal representation of the year when you were born is called BenmingNian (year of birth).Furthermore, Chinese Lunar Calendar was used as reference in the calculation. It was then diversified and red was used in wedding, victory in a battle, passing the imperial examination. Red had been associated. Therefore, red became a representation of victory, bravery, rightness, and token of festivities.
